NEWSLETTER #1: [GLASS//CUTTER] IS DEAD!

Robert Burns July 23, 2025

Hello All!

Welcome to the inaugural [G//C] newsletter. We finally have a handful of somethings to tell you about. First, a bit of housekeeping: we are no longer [GLASS//CUTTER]. The old name was a relic from college days spent making irreverent and violent comics for the punk crowd. It fit us well back then, but we’ve grown (and grown stranger) in the meantime. A change was needed. After long deliberation, we decided that the name of Tyler’s homebrew world resonates with the art we make these days. As a bonus, we don’t have to change our logo!

Long Live The Gossamer Coast.

Your Presence is Humbly Required.

Calling All Lost Lights!

Our first “big project” as Gossamer Coast is nearing completion. Hinterlight is a collaborative worldbuilding game that helps you sow the seeds of future adventure amidst the ashes of a gothic fae empire. Get together with 3-5 friends to  build a band of suitably dreary ne’er-do-wells, recall the wretched land that claimed your lives and perform the grim ritual of your resurrection.

We’re hoping to launch the Kickstarter this fall, but we need your help to get there! The best gauge we’ve got for when we start the campaign is the number of folks following the pre-launch page. Our dream scenario is to have 300 followers when we hit the button. If Hinterlight sounds like it’s up your alley, please take a second to bring us closer to that goal.

If you’re especially eager to pry into the affairs of the noble fae, we’ve also got a Quickstart for sale. Pick up a PDF for four measly dollars through PlusOneEXP’s storefront, or grab a hardcopy from Mixam as soon as they arrive.

Knockabout Lane

We went to GameFace again this year. It was rad! Baltimore’s lucky locals got a chance to get their paws on the first release for Robbi’s trashpunk project, HEAVEN SPOT. Now you can get your paws on it too! Knockabout Lane is a divebar of a neighborhood that can slot into whatever city your players are currently slumming around in. It’ll bring a bit of the futuristic to your fantasy game, or a bit of the mystical to your sci-fi game. Add a twinge of the bizarre to your next downtime session and give players a chance to drink each others’ yesterdays, shell out for a living tattoo, or put a switch in their brain that instantly kills them (temporarily). Knockabout’s big brother, Junkland Shuffle, is slated for release sometime in 2026. Keep your eyes peeled!

Dispatches From The Coast

TYLER // As is customary, the [G//C] crew have tried to fit 10 pounds of games into a five-pound year. I’m catching my breath between last month’s marathon first draft for a SECRET PROJECT Robbi & I are working on and forthcoming efforts to tackle Hinterlight’s latest round of edits. This brief glimpse of sunlight has nourished me greatly, though. We took a day trip last week to check out the Mercer Museum—a concrete castle filled with meticulously catalogued pre-industrial tools. We also caught a screening of REDLINE, which was just as outrageous as I’d hoped.

Not a lot of time for fucking around right now, but there’s a ton of nascent [G//C] projects I’m dying to fiddle with. A push-your-memory skirmish game in a magical library; a dreamland few-shot where expeditions are downtime and play happens when you rest; a journaling game of discarded mech-suits hunting down their profligate creators. At least five more ridiculous ideas I’m dying to sink my teeth into. I hope I can show them all to you very soon.

ROBBI // Ayeooo Geez Wow

As always, I’m drowning in work (but like mostly in a not-bad way (except for sometimes)) For [G//C], I spent most of my time working on art for Hinterlight, Knockabout Lane, & Whalefall (see below!). A couple of this year’s Professional Highlights:

  • Working on Prince of Hounds with Jay Dragon

  • Designing the bookmark for Plus One EXP’s Pride 2025

  • A whole new bushel o’ monsters for Dungeon Denizens 2

While consumed drawing my latest batch of nasty little freaks, the [G//C] house began crumbling around our ears. A book laden shelf tore itself from the wall, water from the upstairs bathroom leaked down into our living room, and a faulty window shattered over Kelsey's head.

Between amateur home repairs and a looming mound of unfinished work, I scheme on the finishing touches for Junkland Shuffle. It’s built from the beloved bones of a world I can’t wait to illustrate, and it’s incredibly special to have the whole team get their fingies up in it.

Also, somehow, I made time to start an indie improv team.

KELSEY// Hey y'all! I'm Kelsey (she/her) and I joined Gossamer Coast officially ~1 year ago with a small, cozy system neutral zine named Candleberry Jam. Since then, my day job has been pretty hectic and a bummer (as I work for an American civil rights nonprofit), so my involvement in the fantasy world has been important to my heart but also limited. I got to jump into some game times at a recent convention outside of Philadelphia called Too Many Games where I was tabling for +1 EXP. It was fun and I got to check out the Mork Borg arcade console. I offered to help Johan “move it”, but he politely declined.

Sneak Peek: WHALEFALL

We’re working with some cool folks to bring y’all a Mothership adventure! The details are still being hammered out, but we have the bones put together and we wanted to give you a taste. In fact, we already have! This issue’s header image is one of the nasty manifestations you’ll find aboard the Trade Ship Knossos:

THE SOWER [C:60 Limbstalk 4d10 DMG I:10 AP:30 W:4(50) Body Save [+] or be encased in hardened ichor] Commander Jean Martel has been reduced to a thing of bleach and wine dregs. The Sower stalks the ship, dragging itself forward, exposed belly first. Its lolling head leaves a shivering trail of caustic biomatter in its wake. When the Sower finds a living human, it drags them back to the orchard and plants their face into one of the waiting masks of polished bone that sprout from its branches.

When you make a Warden Roll, the d10 tracks the Sower’s progress through the ship. Draw the Sower’s trail onto the ship’s map, adding to it as it wanders.

1-2: The sower wanders to an adjacent area in the same zone.

3-4: The sower moves through the nearest zone exit.

5-6: The sower moves toward the ship’s nose.

7-8: The sower is drawn to the eidolon currently influencing The Dream.

9: The Sower moves toward the nearest human life form.

10: The Sower moves toward the party.

When the dream grows FECUND, the Sower’s wandering becomes uninhibited by walls, floors or ceilings. Its trail blooms verdant with moss and fungi, and it can feel when someone crosses it. Smell their fear. Once the Sower has felt the party’s movement, it is always in pursuit.

WHALEFALL is an eleventh-hour hulkcrawl on a derelict ship with a shifting floorplan. Keep an ear to the ground for updates. We’ll tell you more as soon as we can.

GOBURDS

Last, a little local flavor to linger once we’ve left. With football season looming near, we thought it only fitting that we assemble a cheeky little game to celebrate our championship Eagles team with a bit of judicious tomfoolery.

BE WARNED! PLAYING THIS GAME REQUIRES YOU TO LIE TERRIBLY TO STRANGERS. IT WILL DEFINETLY MAKE YOU LOOK DUMB AND WILL PROBABLY MAKE SOMEONE A LITTLE BIT MAD AT YOU. PLAY ONLY IF YOU’RE JUST A LITTLE GUY AND ITS ALSO YOUR BIRTHDAY. PLAY ONLY IF YOU’RE A SILLY LITTLE BIRTHDAY BOY.
